Falkirk sits in central Scotland roughly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, in the low-lying Forth Valley where the River Carron runs through. It’s best known for striking engineering and public-art landmarks such as the Falkirk Wheel, the rotating boat lift that links the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal, and the large-scale sculptures at The Helix.
The town has deep historic roots - the line of the Antonine Wall runs nearby and the area was the scene of battles in 1298 and on Falkirk Muir in 1746 - while its economy moved from heavy industry and ironworks into light manufacturing, retail and commuter services with good links via the M9. Local culture centres on heritage sites like Callendar House, community arts and active sports clubs, giving Falkirk a mix of industrial history and contemporary suburban life.
