Great Bentley is a village and civil parish in the district of Tendring, Essex, England, situated a few miles east of Colchester and inland from the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea. It has its own station on the Sunshine Coast Line and is notable for an unusually large village green or common that still hosts cricket, fĂȘtes and other community events.
With roots stretching back to medieval times, the village grew from agriculture and market gardening and today combines local businesses, schools, pubs and sports clubs with a significant commuter population; community life is active, centred on the church, village hall and annual shows rather than large industry.
