Tonypandy sits in the steep-sided Rhondda Valley within the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales, close to towns such as Porth. It grew rapidly as a 19th-century coal-mining town on the banks of the Rhondda Fach and retains a dramatic, enclosed valley setting with the A4058 and rail links connecting it to the valleys and to Cardiff.
