New Brancepeth is a small former colliery village in County Durham, England, set on the rise above the surrounding countryside a few miles west of Durham. It overlooks parts of the Deerness Valley and sits close to the older village and estate around Brancepeth and Brancepeth Castle, giving it a mix of rugged post‑industrial character and attractive rural outlooks.
Historically built to house coal‑mining families, New Brancepeth still carries that industrial heritage in its terraces and community memory, but today is largely residential with a strong village community, local groups and good access to walking routes and green spaces reclaimed from former mining land. Many residents commute to nearby towns and Durham for work, while social life often centres on local events and the shared history of the area.
