Nettlesworth and Kimblesworth are small, neighbouring villages just east of Chester-le-Street in County Durham, England. They sit in the rolling former Durham coalfield and still show that industrial past in rows of former miners’ housing and reclaimed colliery sites, while newer residential pockets have given the area a largely commuter-village feel.
The villages are known locally for a strong community spirit - village halls, amateur sports clubs and green, walkable spaces where old pitlands have been turned into ponds, fields and informal nature areas. Good road and rail links via nearby Chester-le-Street make Durham city and the wider north-east readily accessible, so the area blends rural edges with a distinctly post‑industrial, community-focused character.
