Margate in Thanet, Kent, England is a classic English seaside town on the North Sea coast, historically one of the Victorian pleasure resorts with long sandy beaches and a working harbour. It occupies the eastern tip of the Isle of Thanet between Broadstairs and Ramsgate; the town’s light and seascapes famously attracted J.M.W. Turner and inspired the name of the Turner Contemporary gallery.
