Stafford is the county town of Staffordshire in England, set on the banks of the River Sow and serving as a historic and administrative hub for the county. The town grew up around the Norman motte-and-bailey of Stafford Castle and still has a traditional market-centre layout with a mix of medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture; it is also an important rail junction served by Stafford railway station on the West Coast Main Line.
