Tilehurst sits on the scarp of the Berkshire Downs to the west of Reading, with sweeping views over the River Thames valley. Largely in West Berkshire but with part falling inside the borough of Reading, it grew from a clay- and tile-making village into a substantial commuter suburb while retaining a mix of period cottages, post‑war estates and green corridors.
The area is noted for its pocket woodlands and chalk grassland, a traditional parish church in St Michael and All Angels, local shops and schools, and good rail links from Tilehurst railway station into Reading and beyond. Community groups and sports clubs help preserve a village atmosphere despite the proximity to larger urban and economic centres.
